About Brenda Avadian, MA

Brenda Avadian, MA founded The Caregiver’s Voice a dozen years ago while writing the pioneering “Where’s my shoes?” My Father’s Walk through Alzheimer’s. Titled after the (grammatically-incorrect) question her father asked repeatedly while suffering from dementia, Brenda kept a journal of his five-year journey.

Published in early 1999, “Where’s my shoes?” was one of only a handful of titles written by family caregivers. Brenda’s message filled the void of silence among caregivers and the book quickly found an international audience and she was called to speak at events across the country.

After her father’s passing in early 2001, Brenda considered returning to her corporate communications and leadership consulting work, but the pull of caregiving proved to her: once a caregiver, always a caregiver. She continues to speak at conferences and to groups and organizations, bringing hope and strength to caregivers with the knowledge that they are not alone.

Brenda advocates humor in difficult times and has managed to find the JOY in caregiving. Her messages empower her audiences to find the JOY and to share their stories, which she’s included in her brand of Finding the JOY books.
